(Spanish Honor Society)

Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica or Spanish Honor Society (known as SHH) is SSA's chapter of the national Honor Society sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. There are over 2,000 national and international chapters.

All students enrolled in Spanish classes who maintain an honor average in for a minimum of three semesters and are in the 10th grade or higher are eligible to be nominated for membership.

The Induction Ceremony for new members is held annually at the beginning of the second semester.

Adviser: Ms. Melissa Arkin

Class of 2011 members are Hannah Cusick, Ebony Harris and Mariana Sosa Alonso.

SHH regularly sponsors activities to highlight Spanish culture.

Field Trips: Mexican Fine Arts Museum/National Museum of Mexican Art, Chicago. All Scholasticans are invited to join SHH members at the Museum on Friday afternoon, October 28.

Bake Sales: SHH raises funds by holding annual Mexican Hot Chocolate and sugar skulls sales to celebrate The Day of The Dead. The hot chocolate is spiced with cinnamon, and the sugar skulls are (mostly) edible.
Poetry: SHH members offer Spanish-language poetry recitations at SSA assemblies and at the annual variety show.
