St. Scholastica Academy students keep busy in their science classes, doing labs and other hands on activities. The hands on experiences help solidify students understand biological, physical and chemical concepts
Physics
St. Scholastica Academy students apply their knowledge of torque, a force that causes rotation, in this lab. The meter stick emulates a see-saw, with a known mass, at a known distance from the pivot point on one side of the meter stick. Students have to determine the distance another known mass must be placed away from the pivot point to achieve balance. Students are asked to apply this principle to other situations as well.

Chemistry
Students in St. Scholastica Academy honors chemistry class try to identify an unknown chemical based on reactions that occur to the chemical under flame. The compound starts out as blue crystals, but after applying heat, water evaporates, and the crystals turn pure white. Observing the water evaporation, taking into account the original color of the crystals, and the mass of the compound before and after the experiment allow students to identify their unknown chemical

Biology
St. Scholastica students integrate their knowledge of the skeletal and muscular systems to observe how these two organ systems work together to produce movement in the chicken wing. Later, they will apply this knowledge to discuss how the muscular and skeletal systems work together in humans in a similar way
