St. Scholastica Academy


Colleen Brewer, Principal 

 

Ms. Colleen Brewer became the Principal of St. Scholastica Academy in 2011.  She came to the Academy in 2000 as a faculty member in the Math Department and served as the Chair of the Math Department 2005-2009.  In December of 2007, Ms. Brewer received her M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership through Loyola University, Chicago, with her Illinois Type 75 Principal Endorsement.  She received her B.S. from the University of Dayton, Ohio, in Secondary Education with concentrations in mathematics and religious studies.  Ms. Brewer served as the Academy's Vice Principal 2009 - 2011.

Since 2000, Ms. Brewer has been a Campus Ministry Team Member, varsity volleyball and softball head coach, senior year student council moderator, peer tutoring and athletic summer camp coordinator.  She has led immersion service trips to the Appalachian region in Kentucky and facilitated the senior overnight retreat based on the Benedictine tenet Stewardship of Gifts.  

As mathematics instructor, Ms. Brewer developed a project based learning course, Applied Math, for senior elective math students.  She created and integrated a hands on algebra field trip to Lincoln Park Zoo that parallels students' Algebra II coursework and aided in integrating Texas Instruments technology learning tools into the department curriculum.

Ms. Brewer joined SSA after teaching junior high for three years at Children of Peace elementary school through Americorp and Amate House Volunteer Organization.  She is still involved with their sponsor parish Notre Dame de Chicago as a member of the parish council and a catechist for RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).
