St. Scholastica Academy

 

Library

The St. Scholastica Academy library is open for reading and research needs every school day from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

It has 16,000+ volumes including reference books, non-fiction and fiction books, periodicals, and paperbacks for recreational reading.

For students, Internet-ready computers are available for library catalog or research use.

For teachers, DVD and VCR players, laptop computers, a Smart Board, LCD projectors, overheads, a CD player, and a camcorder are available for instructional use.

The library space includes two large, bright reading rooms and two smaller conference rooms for group study. The Extension Library contains complete classroom sets of modern and classic literary works.

Librarian: Mr. Russell Kracke

Mr. Kracke received his Masters in Library Science (M.L.S.) from the University of Pittsburgh in 1995. He received a B.A. in English from the University of Utah.

He's lived in Germany twice, including a year of study of at Heidelberg University; he is conversant in German and reads Old-German Fraktur and Dutch. He has traveled to India, Nepal, Iceland, and much of Western Europe; he is also active in genealogy research.

In addition to his position as Librarian at St. Scholastica Academy, Mr. Kracke works Reference at Evanston Public Library; he has been there since 1999.

Research and Catalog

The SSA Library offers students access to reference and research sites through databases provided by the Chicago Public Library and the Evanston Public Library. For more information, visit the Research and Catalog page.

 STAR Day: Scholasticans Together Are Reading

The SSA Library hosts the annual September all-school reading event known as "STAR Day."  Each year, a committee of faculty and students select a book for the entire school to read and discuss. Visit the STAR Day page for more information.
